Mark Clennon - Don’t Start a Fire
Toronto-based artist Mark Clennon creates future soul music that captivates his audience with its unique ability to sound both extravagant and sweet. Born in Jamaica, Mark takes his inspiration from Jamaican Pantomimes allowing his approach to be more theatrical with attention to aesthetics, dance, and a compelling stage presence.
The video for Don’t Start a Fire, directed by Christian Boakye-Agyeman, shows Mark in his Toronto apartment as he moves through the different rooms, dancing and displaying emotion through his steps. Shots of Mark in a forest setting and concrete streets of Toronto also appear as he continues to captivate us with his subtle dance and flow matched to the lyrics. Mark commented on his reasoning behind the location for the video, stating “I wanted to be in the place where I felt the most comfortable in the world and that’s my apartment. It’s also the space where the events that inspired me to write the song took place”. Mark creates dimension and emotion when pairing his movement with lyrics, leaving us all wondering what he will do next.
